Real Madrid are in the mix to sign Pogba from Manchester United when the transfer window reopens.
However, Express Sport understands the La Liga giants need some convincing to sign the France international.
Back in 2016, Manchester United gazumped Real to sign Pogba from Serie A side Juventus, sealing a shock return for a player who had quit Old Trafford four years earlier.
Yet Real’s interest was never quite as strong as many, and United, would have you believe.
Florentino Perez will not sign Pogba, barring a stellar World Cup showing and the slim chance of the 25-year-old lowering his wage demands.
And that is because he has never bought a client of Mino Raiola.
Raiola is somebody Real perceive to be everything wrong with football. The demands he makes, on behalf of himself and his client, are seen to teeter on madness.
When Paul Pogba signed for United two years ago, he got £41million of the £89m fee.
Real have refused to dance to his tune before.
Back in 2010, Zlatan Ibrahimovic set his sights on signing for Real. It was, as Raiola put it, revenge for the way he had been treated by Barcelona during his solitary year at the Nou Camp.
“Zlatan wanted to play for Real [Madrid] when he left Barcelona,” Raiola told Spanish newspaper Marca.
“It would have been the ideal move; the perfect revenge against Guardiola.
“As a person, Guardiola’s behaviour was terrible, shocking. He’s a great coach. [He called Zlatan] about 10 times [in the year he was at Barcelona].
“He told him whatever he needed or wanted, he would be helped with. Then all of a sudden, he stopped talking to him.”
Last year, when Ibrahimovic left United for a brief time following his knee injury, reports in Spain said Raiola had offered his client to Perez again.
And, just like in 2010, Perez said no.
That bodes badly for Pogba who reports say has made a move to Real his No 1 priority.
