Liverpool news: Reds to DOUBLE Trent Alexander-Arnold deal after Man City display | Football | Sport

Alexander-Arnold has grown in confidence as a Liverpool player this season and has held down a regular first-team spot under Jurgen Klopp.

The 19-year-old only signed a new contract last summer, however he has impressed, particularly in the two-legged Champions League quarter-final win over Manchester City.

His displays could even give Gareth Southgate something to consider when deciding his England squad for the World Cup in Russia in a couple of months time.

And according to the Daily Mirror, Liverpool are ready to double Alexander-Arnold’s wages and after improving on his appearance tally last term, he has activated another clause in his contract.

The report suggests the Anfield outfit were already thinking about a new deal, but his performances against City confirmed what they already knew.

Reds legend Jamie Carragher has already suggested that Alexander-Arnold could surpass his record of 737 appearances for the club.

“Trent is going to be a Liverpool player for a long time. I honestly think he could end up making more appearances for the club than I did,” he said.

“He will need to avoid injuries, but he’s only going to get better and he’s going to take a lot of shifting.

“Trent got praise after the first leg against City but it was always going to be difficult to do it again as City were bound to have more possession and pose more of a threat.

“Leroy Sane is a top player and the nature of the game was that Trent was left one-on-one with him a lot of times, but he never panicked.

“It was great to see a local lad performing like that. Young players are bound to have ups and downs, and difficult games now and again like he did against Manchester United and Crystal Palace.

“He’s not the finished article but he’s got a lot of talent and he’s shown he’s got the right attitude and temperament to do with it.”
